RECIPROCATING
COMPRESSOR
Reciprocating compressors are a very efficient way of compressing a gas,
particularly when higher pressures are involved. This type of machine
is used for a simple 3hp garage air compressor, through to large 20,000hp
process plant machines.
When the compressor is used as a vital part of a process or is handling
a difficult gas such as hydrogen, typically it needs to meet the stringent
design requirements of API 618.
LIQUID
RING COMPRESSORS
Gases that are wet, are a vapour, or must be kept cool during compression
are easily handled with a liquid ring compressor. This type of machine
is suitable for pressures up to about 175psi, and although the initial
capital cost may be more expensive then other types, its rugged design
and non- touching rotor make it an ideal choice for difficult services
that require continuous reliable operation. These units are well suited
for use in vapour recovery and similar packages.
